The Season That Changed Everything (and What It Taught Me About Scaling)

I want to start by saying that you might have noticed that the name of the podcast has changed. This podcast was once called Expand Your Impact, but as I’ve evolved, so has the focus of this show.

And honestly… this episode feels like the perfect place to start fresh, with a brand new name and a brand new focus.

I haven’t released a podcast episode in over a year and today, I want to share why and what that season taught me about life, business, and finding your way back when things no longer feel the same.

I could have easily come back and pretended nothing happened. I could have carried on with business as usual and hoped no one noticed the gap. But that wouldn’t have felt right. Because the truth is, my story, just like yours, is part of the journey. And if sharing mine helps even one person feel less alone in their own messy middle, then it’s worth it.

My Own Personal Story

Two years ago, my husband and I decided to separate. We’d been together since I was 18 and were married for 11 years, together for 18. That’s half my life.

We have two beautiful children, and fortunately, the split was amicable but even with splits that are amicable, separation brings change. And that change shook me to my core in ways I didn’t expect.

I’d always thought of myself as resilient and adaptable. I thought of myself as someone who could handle anything life threw my way. But what I didn’t anticipate was how much this would unravel my sense of identity.

Because when you’ve spent your entire adult life being a girlfriend, a wife and a mother, it’s easy to lose sight of who you are outside of those roles.

That summer, I took a step back from my business. I told myself it was temporary just to catch my breath. But when September rolled around and the kids went back to school, I realised something deeper had shifted.

The silence in the house felt loud. And so did the silence in my head.

I remember sitting at my desk one morning, staring at my laptop, and thinking: What am I doing? Do I even want to keep doing this? Who am I now? As a woman, a mother, a business owner?

And because I didn’t have the answers, I distracted myself. I threw myself into dating, into other people’s lives, into anything that made me feel connected again. But the truth? I was looking outward when what I really needed was to look inward.

Fast forward to earlier this year, and that’s exactly what I did. I stopped searching for external validation and started rebuilding my relationship with myself.

And that meant facing some hard truths about my business too.

I had to admit that while I was still serving my clients and getting them incredible results, I wasn’t showing up in the way I used to. My visibility had dropped. My consistency had slipped. And I worried what that said about me as a business mentor.

Would people still trust me? Would they still believe I could help them scale if I’d been quieter online?

But I realised something important: credibility isn’t built only through visibility. It’s built through integrity. It’s built in how you show up for your clients, how you deliver results, and how you continue to evolve even when no one’s watching.

That part never stopped.

Even in my own messy season, I kept showing up for my clients. I just didn’t show up as much publicly.

And I’ve made peace with that. Because growth doesn’t always happen in the spotlight. Sometimes, it happens in the stillness.

The Turning Point

For the past five or so years, my work has centred on helping online service providers scale through digital products, courses, and programs.

Back in 2020–2022, that message worked. The market was booming. People wanted scalable income, more freedom, less client work. It was exciting and I loved being part of that momentum.

But as the market evolved, I started to notice a shift.

It became harder to sell “build scalable offers” as a standalone message.

People weren’t just looking for more ways to make money but also, they were looking for more stability, more alignment, and more clarity in how they wanted to grow.

I saw it over and over again with clients.

They’d tried to launch a course or a program because they thought that’s what “scaling” looked like.

But after one or two slow launches, they gave up assuming they weren’t cut out for it or that the market was too saturated.

The truth?

The problem wasn’t the offer itself. It was the foundation it was being built on.

If your 1:1 services aren’t bringing in stable revenue, your capacity is maxed out, your messaging isn’t clear or you’re not showing up consistently, then scaling just adds more to an already full plate.

That’s why so many service providers feel stuck. It turns out that they didn’t need another offer. They needed a stronger foundation. One that supported the version of business they were ready to grow into.

That realisation changed everything for me and it has shifted the way I now run my business.

Not because scalable offers don’t work, they do, but only when the business underneath them is solid enough to hold the growth and only when the plate you’re holding isn’t full.

It’s funny because I’ve been doing this work for a long time now. In fact, many of the clients who came to me didn’t actually have the space to scale yet.

They were already at full capacity, or their income was inconsistent, or their business model simply didn’t support growth.

Let me give you a few real-life client examples…

One of my clients, a social media manager, came to me wanting to create a scalable offer. She had a few different ideas in mind but essentially she wanted to scale her income. That was her main reason for wanting a scalable offer.

Once we started working together in a 1:1 mentoring capacity, I took a look at her business model (which is something I have always done) and saw that she wasn’t ready. Her done-for-you income wasn’t consistent enough to reach her ‘enough’ number month to month. She had clients on retainer that could cancel without notice. Her marketing wasn’t consistent.

So we put the scalable offer creation to one side temporarily and we got her business up to £5k months. Once this was consistent and she had systems in place, we then revisited and launched her scalable offer, successfully.

Another one of my clients who is a copywriter, was hitting £10k months consistently. Her business was doing really well. Earning over 6 figures a year but the problem she had was a lack of time. Those high revenue months were, at that point, down to the number of clients she was working with. Every working moment was spent on client work. Clients came via referral and next to no time was being spent on marketing.

So again, before we could focus on integrating a scalable offer into her business, we had to free up time without sacrificing revenue. We adjusted her offers so that her projects were less time intensive. We increased her rates so that she could take on less clients without taking a hit in income. This then freed up the space to focus on the next level of her business… scalable offers. Within 9 months she went from making £100k to over £200k.

These kinds of results aren’t the outcome of “doing more” they come from doing the right things, in the right order.

This work is what I have been supporting clients with for years now. I just never truly marketed it in that way but now, it’s become the foundation of everything I teach.

The behind-the-scenes restructuring, the simplifying, the clarity work — that’s what creates real long-lasting transformation.

And what I realised was that my business had grown, but it hadn’t evolved with me.

So I restructured it. I refined my messaging. I adjusted my offers. And for the first time in a long time, I felt aligned again.

So what does all of this mean for you?

Maybe you’re listening to this right now thinking: “That’s me.”

Maybe you’ve been feeling stuck, unmotivated, or unsure how to move forward.

Maybe things look fine from the outside, but inside, something just feels off.

Or maybe things have slowed down, and you’re questioning everything.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

When you’re out of alignment, everything feels harder. Marketing feels like pulling teeth, client work feels heavier and even simple decisions feel complicated.

When you’re in alignment, everything flows more naturally. You stop second-guessing, you stop forcing things and you stop chasing what everyone else is doing because you know exactly what you’re meant to be doing.

And most of the time, the answer isn’t to add more. It’s to pause, reflect and refine.

The truth is, most business owners reach a point where what once worked stops working and that’s not failure. It’s growth. It’s your business giving you feedback that it’s time to evolve.

You don’t need to burn it all down. You just need to rebuild a few parts so it fits who you are now.

So if you’re listening to this and you’re in that season, whether you’re fully booked but capped, or things have slowed down and you’re second-guessing yourself, I want you to take this as your permission slip.

You are not behind and you most definitely are not broken. You are simply in your next season of growth.

The Now

So after all of that, here’s the good news: I’m excited about business again.

This season reminded me of something I’d lost sight of. What I love most isn’t just helping women add scalable offers, it’s helping them create the space to scale and it’s being alongside them through the transformation because the space is where the transformation happens.

Am I still passionate about scalable offers? Absolutely. But now I approach them differently. It’s not just about being able to scale. It’s about alignment, sustainability, and structure.

That’s the work I’m doing now inside of my 1:1 mentoring program, Next Level, Please. I’m helping women who are in that messy middle, the ones who feel stuck between what’s working and what’s next.

We look at their business together. We look at their model, their offers, their marketing, their capacity and we rebuild it so it works for them, not against them.

Because your business doesn’t need to feel heavy or overwhelming. It can feel exciting again.

And that’s what is going to be the focus of this podcast going forwards.

Helping you find clarity, structure, and confidence to build a business that feels good and grows sustainably, whatever season you’re in.

Don’t worry, I will still be talking about scalable offers because I still truly believe that they are an important part of a service provider’s business model but we are going deeper. We are building businesses that are not only scalable but ones that are sustainable long term.

So, if you’re ready for your next chapter too, you’re in the right place.
